When Is the Best Time Go Bass Fishing In Austin, TX? – In The Springtime!

Bass fishing in the springtime is a popular activity among anglers due to the abundance of opportunities to catch fish during this time of year. The weather is getting nicer, the water temperatures are getting warmer, and the fish are getting more active! One of the biggest reasons why spring is the best time for bass fishing is due to the fish spawning. This natural phenomenon takes place when the water temperature rises to a specific level, generally in the low 60’s, which triggers the fish to start spawning. During this time, the fish become more aggressive and willing to bite, making it easier for anglers to catch them. Not only have the fish been more lethargic during the winter so now they instinctively know its time to feed up, but they also have to bulk up in preparation for the energy it takes to spawn.

There are many lures that work during the springtime, but baits the mimic craws and shad are my main choice. Early in the spring the bass feed heavily on craws, while later in the spring when the shad spawn, the bass gorge themselves on Threadfin Shad. Crankbaits, spinnerbaits, swimbaits, and soft plastics craws are all effective lures that can be used to target spawning as well as pre-spawn bass. When fishing in the spring, it’s also important to pay attention to the weather and water conditions, as these can have a significant impact on the fish’s behavior. Days with warming trends tend to pull more fish up to the bank to begin building nests. Something to keep in mind is that not every bass in the lake spawns at the same time, this process takes well over a month.

Another reason why spring is the best time for bass fishing is that it provides anglers with the opportunity to catch a variety of different species of bass. This includes largemouth, Guadalupe bass, and white bass, all of which can be caught in different areas and using different techniques. While the Largemouth and Guadalupe bass tend to live in the same areas, the White Bass make what they refer to as a “run” up the creek channels to spawn. While they’re not necessarily the target species, White Bass run in schools so when you start catching them you catch a bunch! As an added bonus they fight well and are good to eat.

For those who are new to bass fishing or are looking to improve their skills, hiring a professional fishing guide can be a great option. A fishing guide can provide valuable insight into the best fishing techniques, lures, and locations to target different species of bass. During the spring the bass are easier to catch, however they’re not just everywhere in the lake. Knowing where they spawn and what baits they’ll hit is important. A guide can also provide equipment, tackle, and lures, which can be particularly helpful for those who are new to fishing or anyone just in Austin visiting.

In conclusion, generally speaking, bass fishing in the springtime is the best time of year for anglers due to the warmer water temperatures, the fish spawning, and the abundance of opportunities to catch different species of bass. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or a beginner, spring is a great time to get out on the water and experience the thrill of catching a big one. Spring is also my businest time as a fishing guide, March and April will book up in advance! If you have a particular date you would like to fish, I highly recommend booking now in advance.
