Phyllis J. Speer, 80 years old, longtime resident of Lakewood, CO, died on September 22, 2010 at Lutheran Medical Center, Wheat Ridge, CO. Funeral service will be held at Peace Lutheran Church on September 25, 2010 with Pastor Ahlman officiating. Interment Arvada Cemetery, Arvada, CO.
Phyllis was born December 13, 1929, daughter of Helen Marie Gamble Most and William Frederick Most in Roscoe, Nebraska at the family farm. She had 6 brothers and sisters, Thelma (deceased), Harold, Howard, Freda (deceased), and Donald.
She was raised on the farm and went to school district #7 until the 9th grade when she went to Ogallala High School. She enjoyed many activities as cheerleader and baton twirler in high school. After graduating, she taught school at the same district #7 where she attended school. She married Kenneth R. Speer of Grant, Nebraska on August 8, 1947. Ken and Phyllis moved to Benkelman, Nebraska where Kenneth joined his father in the sale barn business. Their daughter, Cynthia L. and Kenneth James were born after they moved to North Platte, Nebraska. Kenneth worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and Phyllis and Kenneth established Speer Dance Studio. Their second son, Michael Lee was born while living there. In 1962, their family moved to Denver where Kenneth worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and Phyllis started her dance school.
Phyllis was active member of Peace Lutheran Church in Arvada, Colorado. She enjoyed the Library Circle, established the Rebecca circle, was president of Guild and taught Sunday school for years.
She was ana avid fisherwoman and loved the Broncos. She was a successful busineswoman as a Dance teacher for over 20 years, member of the Million Dollar Club as a realtor and later was a Mary Kay Consultant. Her hobby was making porcelain dolls. She was a member of the United Federation of Doll Club.
She is survived by her loving husband Kenneth, daughter Cynthia L. Williams; sons, Jim Speer, Mike (Roxie) Speer; Loving grandmother to Andrea J. (Bruno) Mariani, Brent W. (Sharlee) Benham, Lauren E. Williams, Loren Speer, Courtney Speer and Robyn (Levi) Huffman; Loving great-grandmother to Rocco Mariani, Stella J. Huffman, Madeline and Blaze Benham.
Donations may be made in her name to Susan G. Komen for the Cure (Breast Cancer Foundation).
