Because it was long ago and far away, no pic’s. However, when taking a canoe camping would use a strap-clamp-on roof rack and a ladder rack (for lack of a better term) in the bed’s rear stake posts.
Once put-on/lashed-to the racks, the bow and stern were secured to the appropriate bumpers.

I have a 14′ kayak and I just slide it the back with tailgate down (which adds another 20″s to your bed). Make sure to use a flag on the end and maybe a light or something reflective if driving at night.
If you have something longer, there are strap on roof racks ( which basically have padding with a strap to run through your windows), then you center the canoe on the cab and tie down in the center and each end once it’s balanced on the cab. If your only doing this once in a great while, pool noodles work great for padding and just run ratchet straps through the center of them.
They also make a canoe stand that plugs into your trailer hitch to hold one end while the other end is on the cab.
Most sporting goods stores carry these options.
