Just for you guys curious in slick bottom coatings, I crashed into a wall this weekend. I have Gator Glide on my boat – but there are several similar products. I was shooting for a beach path to cross a levee, but at the last minute – I noticed a block of concrete with exposed rebar that washed aground. The wall was a much better choice. Hit it at about 15MPH.
The boat slid about 40 foot from the waters edge to the walls. It probably would have slid 3x+ that if I had not hit the wall, and even further at a higher speed. We were able to turn the boat around and push it back to water with virtually no effort at wall. We each only had to put one hand on and the boat, and didn’t struggle at all the push it.

thankfully you were ok. What size rig is that? I see in your signature that you have a 212 that runs 30mph on a 1436???? is that fully modded?

I used to have gator glide on my boat as well. Awesome stuff, however 1 trip to a sandy bottom river and it was gone. Too bad too because in the marshes it was killer. I think I might just need a new boat for the river and repaint it on my 14′ layout.

It is some really good stuff. Glad you were alright. What motor are you running in that pic?

Did you apply the GG in THIN layers of multiple coats? That’s apparently super important. I think I managed to get 5 coats of the gator base, and 6 coats of the gator glide G2.
I do have a small swamp runner, and yes – the motor is fully built. It’s actually straight off a race kart. Ive been planning to build a motor specifically for the boat and lower RPMs, but time hasn’t allowed for it. Hunting season, kart racing, customers, and moving has tied up a lot of time the last year.
The hull is a 17×48 made by Jason Romero (uncleJcustomboats.com) out of Morgan City, LA. I have some photos of the build posted in this section. I had him build the bare hull. I chose every detail and feature and had it built exactly how I wanted. I rigged and painted it. The motor is a GatorTail with a Subaru Robin 28HP EFI. GatorTail sells them with this motor and 25hp stickers. I picked up the frame used for 2,000 without the engine. Bought a new engine with 5 year warrarnty for right at 2,000 shipped to the door. I wasnt going to pay 8,500ish for a new one. I could barely stomach paying what I did. I considered the Swamp Runner real hard, but I run in a lot of real tight places. I also bring my kids jug fishing, trot lining, and frogging often – which is hard to do without neutral and reverse (at least with small kids running around in the boat).

I remember that boat. Wondered how it turned out. When you said small swamp runner and 1748, I was thinking goodness this guy must be running at 7 mph or something, lol.
Honestly I couldn’t imagine running a boat wider than 36 inches with a longtail, but then again I come from a canoe, kayak, pirogue background.

I didn’t want to take much away from Swamp Runner and get off on Gator Tail tangent.
I’m pretty active on MudMotorTalk.com I actually recommend Swamp Runner to a lot of people over there and try to debunk a bunch of the “thai longtails suck” myths. I do make sure they understand Swamp Runner is the only way to go. I also like to mention Mr. Dobbs great customer support.
Oh, and this past weekend at the boat ramp…I saw 2 Swamp Runners setup with the V-Twin predators, and one running a 14ish hp range engine. All three guys were super happy with them.

They’re not for everyone but they’re a great option for a lot of people. A friend at work ordered one last week because of how good mine does. Every lake and gas station on the way people stop to ask me about it and I can only speak good about the product and Jon.reharbert wrote:I didn’t want to take much away from Swamp Runner and get off on Gator Tail tangent.
