House painting advice. A nearby tradesman said that if we got him to paint the house he’d also do “that black bit at the bottom” but I’m guessing that it’s more than just black paint. Does this have an actual name? Thanks in advance.

It’s either bitumen or black masonry paint, however if it’s chipping away it’s more than likely masonry paint.

Professional decorator.

Thank you – as a decorator do you think it _should_ be bitumen paint or do you think it would be fine as normal masonry paint?

Sorry for a stupid question, but by chipping away do you mean flakes coming off the paint?

Blackjack paint. Bituminous paint for damp proof. Use it all the time. Use a turks head to put on cos it destroys normal paint brushes

Looks a bit thin to be bitumen paint, it’s more than likely Blackjack, which is a waterproof sealant paint, stops damp getting into the walls
