golf course fishing in Florida has some big bass

Someone asked me the other day if I would keep and eat anything I caught on my local course (membership includes fishing). I’m not sure I would…..considering all the chemicals used to keep a golf course. Did you or do you often keep them and eat them from golf course waters?

That’s awesome you get to fish if you’re a member. Where I live member or not, you have to sneak on in the later afternoons. Most of the security doesn’t mind but one or two of them do. But it also has its rewards for being sneaky, I caught a 12 pounder when I was about 10 years old. Still the biggest I’ve ever caught.

I eat my catches from golf courses. But then again I’ve smoked a few cigarettes too. Reckon it’s about the same.

Yeah I definitely wouldn’t eat that thing. Especially seeing how it was caught on a golf course.

That’s strange logic, a golf course might be the worst place to eat a fish out of, with the exception of a irrigation pond for farming.

My biggest bass (11 lbs) is from a neighborhood retention pond, they’ve never seen lures so they will bite anything. Fish on!

What is the difference between a retention pond and a regular golf course pond?

Nice bass man. I’ll from MA but will be in Fort Myers (more specifically, Cape Coral) for a week in March. I’ve been there once before but did not fish. They have many canals in their neighborhood and also a golf course. Is it okay for me to walk up and fish these or are there designated areas to fish? Any types of soft plastics that you suggest I use in March? Anything else you have good luck with?

Might I ask what you were using? My parents have a place near the East Coast of Florida on a golf course. I’d love to fish while I golf!
