Woah Dude

My first bait caster set up. Let’s see how many times I backlash learning this thing.

Rod: St. Croix Bass X, 6’6” medium-heavy, fast action Reel: Daiwa Fuego CT 100HL 6.3:1

You’re going to love that combo, great choice.. Watch debos fishing how to use a baitcaster on YouTube.. It’s the best one I’ve seen for learning.

Awesome rod there. Have the 7’1″ and it’s so light and sensitive. You’ll love it.

Personally I would suggest learning a baitcaster on braid. It seems to me like the backlashes on braid are more forgiving and easier to pick out than backlashes on fluoro or mono. Either way, don’t get discouraged when you do get backlashes. Everyone does when they get a little lazy or throw too hard into the wind.

Thanks for the advice man. Yeah I debated putting braid on it but, I think I may respool it with some now honestly.

Thanks man, take your time! I was intimidated for a while but happy to start learning it now.

It took me 3 days or 1000 casts to mess with my Settings and I don’t back lash at all now it really doesn’t take as long as people say it does

It’s easy once you get the hang of it, and then you won’t want to use anything else. Try a Abu Revo S, very easy one to use, probably get that for less than $100, or if you want to drop a couple hundred not counting the rod, go for a Daiwa Tatula SV TW. Both great reels and easy to use. Turn the braking up a little bit at first. Just remember, nice smooth casts and if the lure stops moving while the spool is still spinning you’re gonna backlash

I just got one of these for Father’s Day. I commented to my daughter that I always wanted one when we were fishing so she decided to get me one. I figured I’m a little to old to learn something like baitcasting, but I figured it out in a couple days. I practiced with a heavier weedless spoon on grass until I got the rhythm down, then started putting things out there as targets. What amazed me was how fast my daughter picked it up – she’s twelve, and was able to hit a five gallon bucket on the second day.

Just got one myself. Wasn’t that bad if you take your time. At first stay in contact with your thumb on the spool ALWAYS and just stop it when the lure gets close to the water.

As you get better you’ll learn when to use thumb and no thumb. Good luck.

I was really bad at first. Then I ran into a nice old man at the lake and he took the time to show me how to set it up and what not to do. I try to do the same

Use braided line. You’ll be MUCH happier as it naturally has less “memory”. Go way heavier (like 30 lb. test) and you’ll have the control you’ll need to become a baitcaster master. By far the best way to learn with the least amount of frustration!
