My line is very loose and I don’t know what I did wrong. Someone please help.

It’s not as tight as when I used my friends rod, not sure if it’s because there isn’t any weights at the other end though.

Is it slipping on the spool? Or do you mean the line isn’t spooled on tight?

If it’s slipping on the spool you will have to take it off and put some mono/floro or electric tape/Teflon tape on the spool. If you think it’s spoiled to loose you can take it off and re-spool it. Or put a heavy weight in and cast it a few times. If you decide to take the line off it’s easiest to reel it from that reel to another one. Or if you have the spool the line was originally on you can just manually wrap it off the onto the spool.

OP, the word usage we’re all struggling with is “loose.”

From your picture, IMHO: 1- that line looks good to me on the spool. Looks new, even, wraps aren’t all over the place. 2- line looks tight on the reel. No gaps I see. You say there’s no weight/lure on the line and yet the line from the bail to the spool remains straight; not sagging off the spool. This all looks good. 3- spool appears close to full, maybe you could have gotten some more line on but you’re by no means underspooled or overspooled (both can lead to wind knots). Another good check.

So … all that said, from the picture I think you’re in good shape. Now as others have pointed out, if by loose you mean you can grab the wraps of line as a mass and turn them around the spools without the spool also turning, then you have a problem. And to solve that, see other posts here. Mono backing, athletic tape on the spool arbor, etc etc etc. lots of ways to fix that but they all require removing the line first to reapply under greater tension.

If you’re saying the line is loose from the spool through the guides, that’s normal. That’s braid. It’s pliable. If yours saying all the line moves on the spools, get local help (a buddy, tackle shop, etc) to resolve. GL

By loose I meant from the top of the guides to the reel is loose. I think it’s because the line was weightless didn’t have any lure on it. I guess I’ll know for sure when I try to fish with it. Thanks for the comment though I appreciate it.

You’re fine. It’s braided it will have this appearance. On the spool, though there is a small almost A shaped plastic you can notch the line into so it doesn’t unspool when you transport it without a lure on. GL fishing

[Edit my bad typing]

If that braid is loose on the spool, put mono on the spool first, then join your braid to it. Option B is to put a little electric tape around the spool, then put your braid on. Also, when you put braid on a reel, make sure you put it on after soaking it in water for a bit. You want that line to dry on that spool overnight so it contracts into place.

Did you tape the spool before putting the line on? Braid has a tendency to loosen on the spool if it’s not gripping anything. Tape/finger wrap fixes that.

Lol everybody’s confused because there’s nothing wrong here OP. Good work, put a lure on, go put it in some water. Being a beginner can make every moment seem like “shit is this right?” Just power through, you’re doing great

You good OP; if you ever find switching lures to be frustrating, then I recommend putting a fishing swivel at the end of your line. You can just attach your tackle to it when you are ready to fish and overall, it makes it easier to try different things out while you learn your preferences
