Why does Walmart sell fish if they can’t care for them properly. All are dead except one and he is nearly dead…

I did some temp work at a Walmart a few years back. Remodel of the store. This included new fish tanks.

All new, looked nice. Lots of cool equipment set up by professionals, not normal employees.

After that the actual fish were put in and taken care of by people with zero training. Literally no additional education in handling live animals. They receive the same attention and care as the motor oil. That is to say, unless it makes a mess, it is ignored.

Not 12 hours after the first fish were put in an entire tank was dead. Must have been over thirty dead fish in just that one tank. Within the week approximately 1/2 of all the fish in all the tanks were dead.

Yeah that’s Walmart training. When I would work in a department (sporting goods, pets, infants) people would come and ask me questions about products, and I’d have to bullshit my way through and end up either telling them “sorry I have no idea” or having them buy a product I know nothing about. It sucks.

how is this not animal cruelty? neglect is killing pets shouldn’t that call for some kind of action?

I still work at Wal-mart. Nobody is trained on how to deal with the fish. Nobody is trained on how to deal with the filter. There is a person told how often to feed the fish … and he rarely does that thing. It is … truly and awful place to work.

12 hours after the first fish were put in an entire tank was dead.

Disease? Overcrowding? Filter not turned on?

An entire tank of thirty fish died, and within a week half of them were alive?

AND SO THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE BEGINS WITH WAL-MART BETA FISH!

I don’t think they even sell them in Canada anymore due to the fact they couldn’t even get them from the freezing warehouse to the tanks in time to save even half of them. Pro life tip: All those bags of dog food at Walmart with tape on them. They are taped up because rats got into them. The back room in any given Walmart is full of rats. Walmart doesn’t give a shit about pets.

Pretty much this.

Oh, and not to mention ALL of your training consists of discouraging unions and subtly hinting at that if you decide to join one you will face consequences.

I bought a beta from Walmart almost two years ago and he’s still alive. His name is James Franco.

I bought a cichlid from a Meijer I believe. He’s doing pretty well. He’s a total asshole though.
