Boldly building with personal touch
Trust – this is the bedrock beneath Boldmove Homes, a custom builder that specialises predominantly in creating two-storey homes with a high quality finish.
Boldmove is headed by Director and registered builder Ric Maio, who said starting the company was one of the proudest moments of his career, despite the challenges caused by the current state of the building industry.
“In my opinion, in my 25-plus years working in this industry, this has been the worst I’ve seen,” Mr Maio said.
“Our economy hasn’t been strong, which might be discouraging customers from purchasing homes.
“Starting my own business during this downturn in the building industry hasn’t been easy, but being a small builder developer, there are very little overheads, therefore managing a handful of clients is all I need.”
Mr Maio said although the industry was at its lowest point, he was optimistic about the future and was hopeful there would be an upturn soon, even though he did not foresee a boom around the corner.
“With some banks easing the restrictions on borrowing, we might see a gradual increase again in the next year or so,” he said. “As the population grows there will be gradual growth in the market, but it will always go up and down in waves.
“The Aussie dream of owning your own home is becoming more and more affordable as well, and there will always be a demand for new developments.”
As for his company, Mr Maio said it was very much business as usual. He said his vision for Boldmove Homes was to keep it small and personalised, with just a handful of clients.
Despite working in the industry for more than a quarter of a century, Mr Maio said he still got a thrill from starting a new project and loved being able to take a block of land, turn it into a construction site and finally present a beautiful new home to clients.
But Mr Maio said building his own display home to showcase what Boldmove Homes has to offer has been the most memorable achievement of his career so far.
“It represents what I’ve been working towards for so many years,” he said. “I loved having a say in every aspect of the build from the design to the layout, colours, features and finishes.
“I have always taken pride in my work and have built with the same dedication and passion over all these years, so this home was no different, other than it was my dream.”
As for the display itself, Mr Maio lauded the fact it was able to offer features usually associated with big homes on a narrow lot. He said it was exceptionally well thought-out and was proud of what he and the designer had been able to accomplish.
In complete contrast to the display home’s compact and functional design, the current project in the crosshairs of Boldmove Homes is a high specification project in Mount Hawthorn. The construction of this residence is more complex and involves more detail in the architecture and engineering, according to Mr Maio.
Different specifications, different price tag. However, Mr Maio said his philosophy was always the same regardless of cost – making sure each home was built with the highest integrity and attention to detail.
“There is nothing more important than the relationship with my clients,” he said. “I always want to be real and honest, so there is trust. It’s the same with subcontractors and suppliers and everyone I work with.”
Located in Dianella, Boldmove Homes’ display home is open Saturdays and Sundays from 1-5pm or by appointment.
