About the Business

Cajun/Creole Cuisine in Lampasas, TX at Toupsie’s – Savor the Taste of New Orleans Without Ever Leaving Texas: Toupsie’s Serves Up Delicious Food and Live Music! Toupsie’s is a restaurant, bar and live music venue located on the north side of Lampasas, Texas. Here you’ll find Cajun food at its best. General Manager Christian Toups was born and raised in Louisiana. He described the pride he has in the food that the restaurant serves, all in a deep Louisiana drawl. In the kitchen, food is scratch-made, and Christian says they don’t serve frozen food, but fresh, made-to-order, hand-breaded meals. Shrimp creole, seafood stuffed potatoes, burgers, steaks, lobster, and craw fish are just some of the things to expect on the menu. Fresh oysters are flown in every Friday, and daily specials combine with a generous brunch on the weekends on the menu. They also have a full bar with an extensive menu and wine options. Music enthusiasts will be excited by the weekly live music. A variety of bands visit Toupsie’s regularly, playing anything from jazz, country, rock, blues, and zydeco music. Sundays bring brunch and blues, a perfect combination for the end of the weekend. Karaoke events also come up from time to time. The 3,000-square foot outdoor patio is where patrons can enjoy listening to bands while feasting on delicious food. The outdoor patio is heated and cooled according to the season so that listeners are always comfortable.

    Yummy!

Wasn’t sure what to expect from a Cajun restaurant in up and coming Lampasas but dang, food was tasty, fresh and so horrible for the arteries!
We’ll be back. We love visiting Colorado Bend State Park and so this might just be our new post hike go to spot.

Agreed with Elite Yelper Liz T. it’s good for where it is AKA Lampassas, TX. Thing is, they named some alleged broth a gumbo. In my years, there has been some rouxless options like stewed tomato and okra I’ve encountered. Never one with seafood. In other words I’d never order Toupsie’s version again devoid of a roux.

Service was minimal for my diners. Drink refills had to be asked for even with our server only having two tables. I guess I should at least round up the stars for separate checks. With some of the bad news out of the way let’s move onto some positive notes. YES, they can fry some serious seafood. Hushpuppies were a perfect golden brown along with my cajun fries.
I at least attempted to have a healthy meal. Arriving just after the doors opened I asked for my dish to have blackened fish instead of fried..nope. Not even an option for blackened on the menu except a Friday lunch special that I could find. Red beans and rice were just OK. Not much on seasoning. As for the digs, the patio was an excellent spot for our lunch. Seems the MEH outweighed the highlights at Toupsie’s.

We stopped here because there were alot of cars in the parking lot. The greeting was luke warm. We chose to sit outside in an area where live music is played on weekends. TVs playing sports lined one wall.

The waitress was very friendly. We got a salad topped with steak and an appetizer “the chef created” that had buffalo sauce on shrimp, alligator and chicken wings.
The salad was pretty good, with cucumber, large fresh, tomato chunks, etc. The buffalo tray was very salty and would have been more interesting, in my opinion, if the alligator was bbq flavored and shrimp had lemon pepper, because the buffalo sauce was overwhelming. This tray was $19.99. We drank four beers ($4.50 each). The total bill was about 68. Didnt feel like a good value.

Read the good reviews and were ready for a delicious lunch. As soon as we walked in the door we smelled raw sewage. Really?? You people that work there can’t smell that?? Put a little water in your drains for the pea traps to get rid of the smell. We had to leave.

    Closed?

January 23, 2020 at 5:30pm. Such a nice day decided to take a drive to get out of the house.
Drove up to Toupsie’s and no cars in the parking lot. Lights were on inside but the doors were locked and no one was inside. They still had the same hours posted here on Yelp.
Wonder if they closed down. No answer on their phone either.

My family and I were looking forward to eating here but left here still hungry. $14.99 for a catfish and oyster basket. Unfortunately, I got 5 small oysters about the size of a small-medium crawfish tail and one fish filet that was cut in half. Poor plate sizes for what you pay so we won’t be back.

Started off solid with fried gator. The new server couldn’t really recommend anything as she hasn’t tried much. Husband ordered shrimp/crawfish po boy and gives a 3. I ordered crab cakes (3 for $20) and they came out burned. Even the tasty remoulade sauce couldn’t salvage the burnt oil. Asked for kitchen to please make just one not so burned and they responded that they were cooked correctly. I asked for a box to take home to dogs. Drinks were not refilled until we asked, so service not acceptable either. Very disappointing. Bottom line, very expensive and all fried food tasted the same & they burned my food and wouldn’t resolve. Do NOT recommend. Will not come back.

We stopped in for some sports, beer and food. I should know to ALWAYS go with the reviews on Yelp, but I thought I would give them a chance. We ordered a beer and a couple of appetizers. We never received the beer and the appetizers were so-so. The waitress did not seem to understand what she should be doing and kept disappearing. We finally decided to leave, so we asked for the check. She brought it, but had charged us for the beer that we never got. Once she fixed it, she never came and picked it back up, so we walked it out.

I would definitely skip this place!

This place came highly recommended so I had to check this place out today for lunch.

I was immediately impressed by the hostess. She opened the door for customers and sat everyone down at a table. She has that Southern charm. Immediately when I was seated a server came by to take my drink order. She was also super courteous. I was super impressed by the service through the entire meal.
Menu/Food- If you are coming here looking for the standard Cajun items (étouffée and jambalaya) this may not be the place. They have the Atchfalaya plate that has shrimp étouffée over a catfish filet as a special during the week. I have heard this place is known for their crawfish boil and seafood. I came in on a Saturday afternoon and the menu is front & back. The front contains appetizers, Gumbos, salads, Po Boys, hamburgers and fried baskets. The back has the daily specials and sides. Today’s special was a seafood pasta dish with bread. I went with the crawfish basket. Their baskets come with Cajun fries and a side. I went with the okra and I really wanted to try the cup of seafood Gumbo so I got that too. The gumbo was tasty. The gumbo was not thick as I was used to (roux usually makes it thick). Still good and lots of seafood. Yum! The crawfish and fries were really good. It was not super greasy and had some good flavor. The okra shocked me. It was a very dark color. At first I was like, “Did this stay in too long?” I think they may use a different coating hence the color, but it tasted really good.
I had a conversation with somebody the other day regarding reviews and agreeing with them. I am definitely not a Cajun expert, but I did enjoy the food. I can’t wait to go back to try more dishes.

Another great bowl of gumbo at the now famous Toupsies. Others had the shrimp basket, fried oysters and even the giant Bayou burger. We just love Ms Pat and Toups. Wylie was a wonderful waitress. Thank you Wylie.

    We will be back.12/25/2016Previous review

Toupsies is a destination restaurant. Located in Lampasas it’s just a short drive from Goldthwate, San Saba, Burnet, Marble Falls and even NW Austin. The gumbo is my favorite along with the shrimp basket with red beans and rice. Dori likes the southern cucumber salad and the Bayou burger. Be sure and meet Pat.. She is the hostess. Tell her “The Bull” sent you. LIKE THEM on Facebook to see daily specials.
